ARTIST STATEMENT
I have been painting ever since my high school art teacher turned my world upside down and revealed to me this world called art.
Painting has chosen me. I paint and photograph my journeys to windswept beaches mountains and to places of beauty. I absorb
the inspiration and I bring it back to Dallas to share with all of you. What I strive to capture is the light, whether it envelopes mountains, pushes between the leaves of the trees or falls gently on a bowl of cherries . I love to catch the colorful wind of a hot day at the beach or the rhythms of the untouched grasses in the mountains. I crave more natural surroundings and so I try to capture the beauty and the awe I experience. To be disciplined yet whimiscal, simple yet complex is my quest. Perhaps my work could be described Abstract Impressionism. I paint from life and then I allow for the abstraction that exists inside and out to pervade and erase the edges of our seen reality . I strive to bring color, movement and a deep trust to this crazy undefinable act called painting. I never stop learning and I love sharing my work with you.
BIO
Thank you for your interest in my work. Painting is my passion and it always has been. I am a painter and a freelance graphic designer. I currently live in the Lakewood neighborhood of Dallas, Texas. I have been inspired to actively paint for over 20 years. My art teacher would take our entire class to DC and to New York to see big exhibitsI was very moved by the large paintings by Bonnard and VanGogh at an early age. At 17 I turned down a scholarshipto Pratt and chose to attend McGill University in Montreal to get an undergraduate degree. I then spent one year sculpting limestone in quarries and painting fields of lavendar and sunflowers in Provence, France through the Cleveland Institute of Art. Following this wonderful experience I worked at the Phillips Gallery in Washington D.C., where I was deeply influenced by the colors of Diebenkorn, Rotho and Matisse. It was clear that I needed to pursue my dreams so I moved to New York City and got my Masters in Fine Art in painting at Parsons School of Art and Design. Since then I have lived in California, Boston and Texas where I have applied my artistic skills in various fields. I have worked as an art director of a camp, I have worked as an art teacher and as a 3-D animator. After getting my Masters in Designat Texas A & M.I worked as an art director in advertising agencies and I have taught art to middle schoolers in French. All these experiences have brought me to where I am today.I am a full time painter and I love it! I currently participate in many art festivals a year and I have also had solo shows in several galleries. I paint commissions and I also teach private lessons.
